Time2Feel App

Time2Feel is a first of its kind app developed by Dr. Kristel Thomassin, in collaboration with Troon Technologies, to  improve the measurement of emotional experiences in children and parents.

The app integrates seamlessly with wearable technology, allowing researchers to map real-time physiological responses such as heart rate and skin conductance, against emotional state and daily activities.

The Challenge.

To meet research objectives, Dr. Kristel Thomassin required a solution capable of gathering detailed information from multiple family members throughout the day, tracking their emotions, activities, and physiological responses over an extended period. Specific surveys needed to be triggered by both scheduled intervals and deviations in physiology, recorded promptly, and exported in a format suitable for in-depth analysis and research.

Our Strategy.

The Time2Feel app is built with a deep understanding of Dr. Kristel Thomassin’s research requirements, combining the power of wearable technology with intuitive mobile and web applications. We focused on streamlining data collection and enhancing the research experience for both participants and researchers.

  • Physiological Data Collection

Accurate physiological data is a key requirement for the study. Commercial wearable devices, like Fitbit, do not allow the necessary data access, so a medical-grade wearable device, the Empatica E4, is chosen. This is seamlessly integrated with the app, ensuring accurate and real-time physiological data collection.

  • Automated Survey Scheduling

Four random survey notifications are generated throughout the day, evenly distributed. If a notification is missed or not completed within a specified time window, custom logic ensures a reminder is generated within the same time block without overlapping with a deviation based trigger.

  • Deviation-Based Triggers

The app is designed to detect physiological deviations, such as a sudden increase in heart rate or skin conductance. When these deviations occur, the app automatically sends a survey notification, prompting participants to log their emotions and activities which must be completed within a time frame.

  • Data Export and Management

Customized export ensures massive volumes of data from various family members are logged and exported in a format to support thorough analysis.

  • User Friendly Interface

The app features simple navigation. It’s designed to make it easy for participants of all ages, including young children, to understand and use the app effectively.
