Downtown Kingston BIA
The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a vibrant, active organization with over 700 members from mom-and-pop-shops to large hotels and high-end chains, all situated in Kingston’s beautiful core commercial area. A customized job board was the next priority for the leadership of the BIA to enhance their website; facilitating connections between these diverse businesses and job seekers, in time for tourism season.

The Challenge.
The BIA had a modern, branded website. However, they wanted to include a job board that was interactive, up-to-date, and accessible by members—a functionality that their current website did not offer and all the options they found were exorbitantly priced.
Troon was tasked with finding a custom web solution that:
- Seamlessly integrated with their existing website
- Maintained precise visual continuity
- Preserved excellent UX
- Better served their budget in the long run
It needed to be done right, it needed significant customization, and it needed to be done fast. Kingston’s tourism season starts in the spring and hiring happens before the large student population moves on for summer. That left only 4 weeks to make this integration a reality, on time and on budget.
Our Strategy.
After conducting in-depth discovery, Troon found a platform that required a low monthly fee, was customizable, and met the functionality specifications of the client. The savings to the BIA was 65% in the first year alone! Troon’s expert team used PHP based WordPress CMS to develop and customize the site, matching the two together perfectly so that users wouldn’t even recognize the shift between platforms.
